Geffen Academy Sports: Year in Review 2025-2026
As another memorable year of athletics comes to a close, the Bruins once again demonstrated the growth, competitiveness, and community that continue to define Geffen Academy at UCLA. Across every varsity sport, student-athletes represented Geffen Academy with pride — delivering standout performances, playoff appearances, milestone victories, and individual honors while balancing the demands of academics and athletics at the highest level.
From breakthrough seasons and program-building moments to all-league recognition and unforgettable performances, the 2025-26 school year was one to remember. Whether under the lights, on the court, in the pool, or across the course, Bruins athletes embraced the challenge of competition and strengthened the culture that drives the department forward.
Here’s a look back at the accomplishments, highlights, and athletes who made this school year one for the record books…
FALL
Cross Country
With both the girls and boys teams advancing to the CIF Southern Section Championships in November at Mt. San Antonio College, the Bruins battled wind and rain before recording a handful of season-best efforts. READ MORE
Sebastian M. finished first for the Geffen Academy boys in the waterlogged Division 5 competition, crossing the finish 29th overall. He was one of three Bruin boys in the top 50 along with team captain Zachary H. and Fernando B.
On the girls side, Kiera W. and Lila N. had impressive back-to-back, 14th and 15th place finishes.
Additional Bruin runners included Tallie G., Abby A., Sage O., Mia A., Carter L., Genki M., Lenny Z., and Alec U.
Earlier in the fall, the Bruins also finished runner-up at the Mt. SAC Invitational. Keira W., Tallie G., Sebastian M., and Beau C. each received First Team All-League accolades, while Lila N., Abby A., Zachary H., and Fernando B. were named to the All-Coastal League Second Team.
In late October, Geffen Academy’s middle school boys cross country team was also crowned Pacific Basin League Champions. MORE


Girls Tennis
In team play, the Bruins finished league play 5-3 overall, earning a spot in the CIF-SS playoffs. In the opening round, Geffen Academy took down Mayfield, 11-7, at Occidental College. To close out the season, the Bruins battled Agoura in the second round of CIF-SS play.
Sophomore Amelia M. was named Ocean League Most Valuable Player after a stellar fall campaign. The conference’s singles champion, she advanced to the CIF-SS Individual Championships, winning several sets at Lakewood Tennis Center. READ MORE
The middle school program fielded formidable Gold and Blue teams this fall. The Blue team faced Crossroads in the Pacific Basin League team tournament, while four Bruins (Siana T., Eloise C., Isla W. and Leona M.) competed in the league individual tournament. The doubles pairs of Lea Y. and Jude P., as well as Iris Y. and Paige H. also took on the conference’s best in the tournament.

The Bruins powered through Coastal League play (8-4) to punch their ticket to the postseason. Traveling to Lancaster for the first round of the CIF-SS playoffs, Geffen Academy swept the Eagles in straight sets with junior Ela A. leading the team in kills. The Bruins met CAMS in the second round of the postseason, with the Coyotes posting a 3-1 victory. READ MORE
Along with Seri Y. and Hana C., Ela A earned First Team All-Coastal League honors. Jessica P. and Athena B. also received All-League Second Team recognition.
At the middle school level, the Bruins fielded both a Gold and a Blue team.

WINTER
Noelle P. earned first team All-League distinction as the Bruins closed out the season with a 5-8 league record. Senior Morgan B. and sophomore Rachel N. were named to the Coastal League Second Team.
Highlights from the season included two strong victories over conference rival Lennox and a Homecoming win at home against Wildwood (32-10). The Bruins also nearly upset league powerhouse Vistamar in a 34-31 nailbiter. READ MORE
In middle school action, the Bruins earned impressive victories over Brentwood, Windward and Wildwood.

Stevan M. earned first team All-League distinction as the Bruins closed out the season with a 7-10 overall record. Seniors Connor B. and Ethan H. were named to the Coastal League Second Team.
The Bruins took down Wildwood on Homecoming, 69-39, and earned additional impressive wins against CAMS (57-48) and Wildwood (38-31). READ MORE
The middle school Blue and Gold teams has successful winter seasons, with both teams advancing to the Pacific Basin League postseason, where the Bruins both took on Windward.

Senior Macy B. was named the school’s CIF Southern Section Scholar Athlete of the Year and earned First Team All-Coastal League honors. Anju S. and Ella W. were also named to the Coastal League Second Team as the Bruins finished the winter with a 3-9 overall record.
On Homecoming, the Bruins toppled league rival Wildwood, 3-0, at UCLA Drake Stadium. READ MORE
In middle school action, the Blue team battled hard in Pacific Basin League play.

Earning a spot in the CIF-SS playoffs, the Bruins faced Maranantha after closing out the season with a 9-4-2 overall record. Senior Raphael O. was named to the Coastal League First Team, while Ethan A. and Lucas F. secured Second Team honors.
Geffen Academy began the season hot, battling Ventura to a 1-1 draw before muting Rolling Hills Prep, 12-0. The Bruins also recorded an impressive 2-1 victory at home versus Royal High School on Senior Night. READ MORE
Geffen Academy fielded both a Blue and Gold middle school team. The Blue team advanced to the Pacific Basin League playoffs, taking on Windward.

SPRING
A historic season saw the Bruins shatter records at nearly every competition. The Geffen Academy boys won a Coastal League Championship, edging out league rival CAMS by a single point for the title. Sophomore Lila N. also became the first Bruin to qualify and score points at the CIF-SS Championship finals, competing in the girls 800m race.
Roy R., returning from an early-season injury, made a remarkable comeback, winning both the 100m (11.76) and 200m (24.20) at league finals. His 100m time set a new school record, edging out the mark previously held by Benjamin Mizrahi (11.79). In the distance events at Coastal League Finals, Sebastian M. delivered a dominant double victory, winning the 1600m (4:53.22) and 3200m (10:44.68). Makena Damudar also won the girls throws events, winning both the discus (82’9”) and shot put (29’9”), with her shot put mark setting a new school record. READ MORE
At the CIF-SS Prelims, the girls 4x100m relay team of Rayah R., Sadie K., Abby S., and Keira W. clocked a school-record 53.46. Not to be outdone, the boys 4x100m relay team of Ethan H., Aaron R., Genki M., and Roy R. followed with a record-breaking 45.90. In longer relays, the girls 4x400m team (Abby A., Sadie K., Keira W., and Lila N.) posted a 4:23.23 school record, while the boys 4x800m squad of Atticus S., Alec U., Joaquin M., and Carter L. ran 9:09.86 to add another record to the tally. Individually, Sadie K. set school records in both the girls 100m (12.65) and 200m (25.66), while Roy R. matched the feat on the boys side with new records in the 100m (11.47) and 200m (23.47). Keira W. initially broke the girls 800m school benchmark with a time of 2:31.49 before Lila N. surpassed it later in the meet (2:24.17). Sebastian M. added two more records, running 4:45.80 in the boys 1600m and 10:17.95 in the 3200m, while in the field events, Makena D. set a record in the girls discus with a throw of 88’6”, while also competing in shot put (28’2.5”).
At the middle school level, the Bruin girls finished sixth and the boys placed fourth at the Pacific Basin League Championships, with eighth grader Kainoa D. winning both the boys’ 1600m and 800m races. Seventh grade Abena N. was second in the girls shot put and Erin M. finished second in the girls sixth grade 60m race.

Geffen Academy’s divers were on fire as senior Kielan L. and sophomore Christina X. each won CIF-SS Diving titles before moving on to the state meet. At the CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships, both made the podium with Kielan finishing third in the boys competition and Christina sixth.
The Bruin boys also won a fifth-straight Coastal League Championship, with Lucas W. winning the 100 butterfly, Aiden L claiming the 100 backstroke and Josh Z. placing first in the 100 breaststroke. The Bruins capped the championship meet in style, as the 400 freestyle relay team of Caleb A., Theo E., Aiden L., and Lucas W. surged ahead of the field and splashed home first in 3:37.79. The 200 medley relay team of Aiden L., Caleb A., Deivis D., and Lucas W. also earned a first-place finish in 1:49.32. Caleb A. also jetted to victory in the 200 freestyle (2:01.61), while Theo E. sprinted to first in the 50 freestyle (25.59).
On the girls side, senior Ananya G. was named League MVP after winning the 100 backstroke (1:15.01) and contributing to victories in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. The winning 400 freestyle relay team featured Ananya G., Lyla H., Christina X., and Anna T. Senior Anna T. led a record-breaking charge, rewriting the Geffen record books in the sprint freestyle events. She zipped to the wall in 26.17 in the 50-yard freestyle and 57.84 in the 100, and helped set the tone early by leading off the Bruins’ meet-opening, first-place 200 medley relay at league finals. That quartet — with Anna alongside seniors Caroline M. and Ananya G. as well as sophomore Christina X. — splashed home in 2:12.75. READ MORE
During the fall middle school season, the Bruins hosted a pair of meets at UCLA SAC Pool and splashed home to multiple season-best efforts at the Pacific Basin League Championships, hosted at Santa Monica High.
Additionally, the varsity boys swim team was recognized for winning its second-consecutive CIF Southern Section–Ford Academic Team Championship. The honor marks the fourth time the program has earned the distinction, placing it among the section’s most consistent academic standouts. To qualify for the award, teams must include at least five student-athletes with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with champions determined by the highest cumulative team GPA in their enrollment category. The Bruins once again topped schools with 1,499 students or fewer.

The Bruins closed out the season on a high note, securing wins over Wildwood (3-2) and New Roads (3-0). Aiden C. and Gavin P. earned First Team All-League honors, while Daniel H. and Jerry Z. snagged Second Team accolades. Geffen Academy finished the season with a 4-6 overall record.

Collin C. was named Coastal League MVP and doubles partners Aiden G. and Quentin B. were conference doubles champions as the Bruins finished a spotless league campaign, 8-0. The Bruins sparred with Long Beach Polytechnic High School in the opening round of the CIF-SS team playoffs, losing a 9-9 heartbreaker on single games, 82-80.
Earlier in the spring, Geffen Academy earned an impressive 11-7 victory over Los Angeles City Section powerhouse Palisades Charter. The Bruins also took on area heavyweight Loyola. Before that match, each school paused to honor former Loyola tennis player, Braun Levi, who was tragically killed after being struck by a vehicle last season. Levi was privately coached by Geffen Academy Program Director Ron Booth.
Leyton C., Dulan H., Ben S., and Emmett M. were also named to the All Coastal League First Team, while Niklas D., Halu I., and Cameron S. received Second Team distinction. READ MORE
At the middle school level, Geffen Academy fielded both a Blue and a Gold team with the Blue team advancing to the Pacific Basin League team playoffs where they battled Wildwood. In the league’s individual tournament, Pierce N. and Colin N. competed in singles play, while doubles pairs featured Jago S. and Andy B. as well Oliver G. and Sebastian G.

High School Golf continued the advancement of their program with some dominant performances under new Head coaching staff, Mike Padilla and Raphael Villarama.
Our JV program continues to evolve with multiple competitions throughout the season, at a variety of local courses. Led by Captain, Christian C. 27, the Varsity Golf Team swept the Coastal League Team Championship Title for a second successive year and earned the majority of the All-League honors. Christian C. ’27 was named League MVP, Willie L. ’27 and Nathan L. ’26 earned 1st team honors and all three golfers qualified to the CIF Northern Regional Qualifier at Los Robles Greens. Harry K. ’29 and Alexandra B. ’27 earned all-league 2nd team honors. The Varsity Golf team qualified to the CIF-SS Team Championship Finals for the 4th time in 5 years out at Green River GC, Corona, and posted their best overall team score at the championship event by three shots.
The middle school golf team, for the fourth year in succession, fielded a large spring roster of 20 athletes. Geffen Academy once again fielded two competitive teams at the Pacific Basin League Championships at Heroes Golf Course, with the Blue Team finishing 3rd overall, and the Gold Team finishing 6th.

The team, Izzy K. and Olivia L. (both 7th grade), and Avery L. (Junior and Team Captain) showed throughout the year at four two-day shows at the Hansen Dam Equestrian Center in Novice, Freshman, and JV levels in hunter and jumper classes. Numerous placements occurred throughout the season, with many blue ribbons coming home with the riders and their equine partners, Charlie Brown (Izzy), Brooklyn De Riouat (Olivia), and MacGregor (Avery).
At the end of the season, the Bruins were invited to compete in season medal finals, with Olivia L. bringing home a 3rd place in the .90m jumpers. It was a successful year for a small but very dedicated team. READ MORE


A handful of high school fencers tested their mettle in Southern California Scholastic Fencing League competition this school year with a trio qualifying for the State Championships at Chaminade High School. At the State Championships, Olivia J. claimed seventh place in the junior women’s foil. This was her second straight year representing Geffen Academy at the State Championships. Nelsun L. also took on top fencers in the state in men’s epee, while Jasper K. was a qualifier in men’s foil.
At the middle school level, sixth grader Alex C. showed improvement throughout the season, often finding success even while competing in higher age group levels. Chu L. and Jason Z. also had impressive medal finishes. READ MORE


College Commitment
Senior diver Kielan L. inked his commitment to continue his athletic career next school year at Georgetown University. One of the top-ranked boys diving recruits in the country, Kielan heads to Washington D.C. as a two-time CIF Southern Section Boys Diving Champion and four-time Coastal League Swimming and Diving Champion. Student Athletic Council
Geffen Academy’s student-led group of elected representatives from each grade level helped to strengthen the school’s athletic community via school spirit. Co-Presidents Connor B. and Macy B. spearheaded efforts to craft a new Varsity Letter and Letterman jacket as well as a new Spirit Store, which will launch next school year. The Council also recognized high school All-League honorees as well as recipients of academic awards. READ MORE
