Every student wishing to participate in athletic activities (pre-season conditioning, tryouts, interest days, practices, or contests) must be cleared by Geffen Academy Athletics prior to any participation. You must register your child via Magnus Health for each sport they plan on participating in for the upcoming school year.

Physical Examinations

As part of the clearance process, every athlete is required to complete a physical examination one time per school year and register for sports online via Magnus Health.

Step-by-step instructions are listed below on this page.

Having a physical dated between May 1st and September 1st will eliminate the need to provide a new physical mid-year and prevent in-season disruptions. The physical form must be uploaded to your student’s Magnus Health profile before the student can be cleared to participate in any athletic tryouts, interest days, practices, or contests.

If you would like to have your student’s physical updated between May 1 and August 31, please see the information below.  Exer Urgent Care is now offering sports physical examinations, free of charge, during the summer.  If you plan to participate in this program, please note that you should not forgo your regularly scheduled annual check up with your child’s physician that is covered through your primary insurance.

Most insurance policies cover one physical examination per year.  However, multiple health care facilities in the Westwood area provide walk-in sports physicals. Call ahead to schedule an appointment and to check pricing. Bring the Official Geffen Academy Physical Form for the doctor to complete. All Physical Forms must be signed and dated by a medical professional. We are unable to accept physicals and medical notes signed by parents.

Families who would like an in-person help session to register students for the 2026-27 Bruins season, please click here to sign up for an available slot from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. or 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on June 22 and July 9. Please bring your own laptop and any necessary paperwork.

Once you have submitted your sports registration including the physical examination form and other required medical documents via Magnus Health, the submission will be reviewed by our athletic trainer. If needed, an email will be sent asking you to provide additional information or uploads. There is no need to bring in a printed copy of the physical form or confirmation page.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):

Q: Our physician does not have an available appointment for a physical until after the season begins. Is it alright for my student to participate before getting their physical?

A: No. Students may not participate in any athletic activities until they have a valid physical on file. There are local options for athletic physicals outside of family medical insurance. Contact our Athletic Trainer, La Keisha Fair for further guidance.

Q: My student’s physical examination from last school year hasn’t expired. Can I upload it again for this school year?

A: Physical examinations are valid for one calendar year from the date of the exam. If it has not expired, you do not need to re-upload it.  If your physical is set to expire during the season of your sport, you should get a new one to avoid disruptions. Students with expired physical examinations will be held out of practices and competitions until an updated exam form is submitted.
