Athletic Director David Collicutt Appointed to CIF Southern Section Executive Committee

LOS ALAMITOS— Geffen Academy at UCLA Athletic Director David Collicutt has been appointed as the interim Boys Athletic Director Representative to the CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) Executive Committee, one of the highest governing bodies in high school athletics in Southern California.

The CIF Southern Section Executive Committee plays a critical role in shaping the future of education-based athletics, overseeing policies and decisions that affect hundreds of schools and thousands of student-athletes. The committee addresses matters including eligibility standards, competitive equity, playoff structures, sportsmanship expectations, emerging sports, and the overall direction of interscholastic athletics throughout the region.

Collicutt’s appointment reflects decades of leadership and service in athletic administration. He has served as an Athletic Director for more than 25 years, including 17 years at Marlborough School before joining Geffen Academy at UCLA. Since 2016, he has served on the CIF-SS Athletic Administrators Committee and currently contributes to multiple CIF-SS committees, including the Soccer Advisory Committee, Technology Committee, and Small Schools Committee. In his new role, he will also serve as co-chair of the Athletic Administrators Committee.

“I am excited to know that Geffen Academy at UCLA will have a representative at the highest level,” Collicutt said. “To be selected to serve on the CIF Southern Section Executive Committee is truly one of the greatest honors of my professional career.

“Having spent more than three decades in educational athletics, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that school sports can have on young people. I am grateful for the trust placed in me by my colleagues, and I am excited to contribute to the important work of helping guide the future of high school athletics in Southern California. My goal is to represent schools thoughtfully, advocate for student-athletes, and help ensure that education-based athletics remains a transformative experience for every student we serve.”

Widely respected throughout California high school athletics, Collicutt currently serves as President of the Coastal League and is a frequent presenter at statewide athletic director conferences, leadership summits, and Concordia University courses. His contributions to the profession have earned numerous honors, including the inaugural CIF-SS MVP Athletic Director recognition in 2016, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) California State Award of Merit in 2018, and Concordia University’s Award of Excellence that same year.

In addition to his accomplishments as an athletic administrator, Collicutt has enjoyed a distinguished coaching career in soccer at Santa Monica High School, Marlborough School, and Geffen Academy. In 2022, he led the Bruins to the program’s first CIF Southern Section Boys’ Soccer Championship and was named CIF-SS Boys’ Soccer Coach of the Year. One of Geffen Academy’s founding faculty members, he also helped launch the school’s golf program and has served as it’s program director in addition to his role as Pacific Basin League tennis coordinator.

Collicutt’s appointment to the Executive Committee further elevates Geffen Academy’s presence within the Southern California athletics community and ensures that the school’s commitment to student-centered, education-based athletics will be represented at the highest levels of CIF governance.
