Bruins Make Waves at CIF-SS Swim/Dive Championships, Records Fall and State Berths Secured
WALNUT— Over several days of elite competition at Mt. San Antonio College, Geffen Academy’s swimming and diving team delivered a standout showing at the CIF Southern Section Championships, highlighted by record-breaking efforts, finals appearances, and a pair of Bruins advancing to the CIF State meet.
The Division 4 girls opened competition on May 5, with the Division 3 boys following on May 6. Across both squads, Bruin athletes proved they could rise to the moment against top-tier competition.
The girls 200 medley relay team of Anna T. (senior), Caroline M. (senior), Ananya G. (senior), and Christina X. (sophomore) kicked things off by splashing home in 2:12.90 during prelims. The quartet returned in finals to place 18th in the consolation heat (2:15.95).
Individually, Anna T. led the charge with a record-setting performance in the 50 freestyle, blasting to a 26.10 in prelims to secure a spot in the championship final while setting a new Geffen Academy school record. She came back even stronger in finals, lowering her own mark to 26.07 and placing 9th overall. Anna also made waves in the 100 freestyle, where she set another school record (57.75) in prelims and went on to place 14th in finals (58.31).
Ananya G., fresh off being named Coastal League MVP, showcased her versatility across multiple events. She clocked a 1:14.03 in the 100 butterfly and added a 1:16.75 in the 100 backstroke. She also contributed to the girls 400 freestyle relay, where she teamed with freshmen Lily S. and Lyla H., along with Anna T., to post a 4:33.60.
Christina X. continued an already remarkable postseason, demonstrating her all-around talent after capturing a CIF-SS Division 3 diving championship earlier in the month. She has also qualified for the CIF State meet and will compete Thursday at Clovis West High School alongside senior Kielan L. in the diving competition.
On the boys side, sophomore Lucas W. delivered a breakout meet. He sprinted to a 22.19 in the 50 freestyle during prelims to earn a spot in the consolation final, then blasted to an even faster 21.99 in finals to place 11th and set a new school record. Lucas also doubled back in the 100 butterfly, going 54.59 in prelims before finishing 12th in finals with a 53.78.
Junior Josh Z. powered his way into the championship final of the 100 breaststroke with a blistering 59.61 in prelims. He followed that up with a 59.56 in finals to secure a 7th-place finish. Teammate Caleb A., a sophomore, also made the consolation final in the same event, posting a 1:02.50 in prelims and finishing 17th overall (1:02.94).
From record-breaking swims to state-level qualifications, the CIF-SS Championships marked another major step forward for Geffen Academy swimming and diving. With Christina X. and Kielan L. set to compete on the state’s biggest stage, the Bruins’ postseason momentum is far from finished.
