Christina X. Tops Competition To Win CIF-SS Diving Title
MISSION VIEJO — Geffen Academy’s Christina X. won the CIF Southern Section Division 4 Girls Diving Championship on Wednesday at Mission Viejo’s Marguerite Aquatics Complex, finishing with a score of 495.10 to top the competition.
A sophomore, Christina led a stellar outing for the Bruins, which also featured junior Ashley K. placing eighth overall with a score of 386.95 in the 11-dive showcase.
Christina’s title is the second individual CIF-SS championship in school history and improved significantly on her performance from last spring, when she placed third in Division 3 with a score of 465.75. Her winning total this year represented a bump of nearly 30 points and reflected greater consistency across all three phases of the meet.
She remained near the top of the standings throughout prelims and semifinals en route to the Section crown.
Ashley advanced through the preliminary and semifinal rounds to reach the finals, where she maintained a top-eight position to earn a podium finish.
“Christina showed a lot of growth from last year, especially in her consistency and execution,” Geffen Academy Swimming and Diving Program Director Melissa Ribeiro said. “Both Christina and Ashley handled a very competitive field well this year and represented the program well.”
The CIF-SS championships feature some of the deepest diving fields in the state, with athletes competing across 11 dives that test both difficulty and execution. Christina is expected to continue competing next month at the CIF State Championship Qualifiers at Mt. San Antonio College on May 5.
