Geffen Academy Teams Receive CIF-SS Ford Academic Awards

LOS ALAMITOS— Academic excellence remains a defining strength across Geffen Academy athletics, with numerous teams earning recognition from the CIF Southern Section for outstanding collective grade point averages.

This year, several Geffen Academy programs received Honorable Mention for ranking among the top teams in the Southern Section, including Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Golf, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Girls Swim & Dive, Boys Tennis, Girls Tennis, Boys Track & Field, Girls Track & Field, Boys Volleyball, and Girls Volleyball.

Among 2,667 teams across 29 sports considered this year, Geffen Academy’s widespread recognition highlights the school’s deep, program-wide commitment to academic achievement.

Leading the way, the boys swimming and diving team captured its second consecutive CIF Southern Section–Ford Academic Team Championship. The honor marks the fourth time the program has earned the distinction, placing it among the section’s most consistent academic standouts.

To qualify for the award, teams must include at least five student-athletes with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with champions determined by the highest cumulative team GPA in their enrollment category. The Bruins once again topped schools with 1,499 students or fewer, underscoring both individual discipline and a strong team culture centered on academic success.

The team’s excellence in the classroom mirrors its performance in competition. The Bruins secured a conference championship this past season and previously earned CIF State recognition for academic achievement, further cementing their reputation as one of California’s premier scholar-athlete programs.

“This group continues to set the standard for what it means to be a true student-athlete,” said Athletic Director David Collicutt. “This is the seventh straight year that each of our eligible teams have received recognition for their academic success. Winning conference championships in the pool is an incredible accomplishment, and for the boys’ swim team to have earned its fourth academic championship in five years speaks volumes about the team’s discipline, commitment, and character. This recognition complements their athletic success perfectly.”

As part of the recognition, the Bruins will receive a commemorative championship banner and will be honored during a pregame ceremony at Angel Stadium on April 20, when the Los Angeles Angels host the Toronto Blue Jays.

In addition, four Geffen Academy student athletes have also received CIF Scholar Athlete recognition for the 2025-26 school year. To read more about the Bruins’ individual honorees, click here.
