Two Bruin Standouts Named CIF-SS Scholar Athletes
LOS ALAMITOS— Geffen Academy seniors Macy B. and Stevan M. have been recognized among the CIF Southern Section’s top student-athletes, earning “Student-Athlete of the Year” honors as part of the 38th annual CIF-SS–Ford Academic Awards.
Announced Tuesday, the program honors 359 student-athletes across the section who have demonstrated excellence in both academics and athletics. Each CIF-SS member school selects one male and one female recipient, with honorees required to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA over three years while lettering in a varsity sport and participating in extracurricular activities.
Macy, a standout in both girls soccer and girls tennis, has distinguished herself through her rapid athletic development and consistent academic success.
“I am proud to have heard that Macy has been honored with the CIF Academic Achievement Award,” said Geffen Academy Tennis Program Director Ron Booth. “Despite picking up a racquet just a year and a half ago, she rose from JV to a key varsity starter. Her academic focus and disciplined work ethic drive her success in every arena.”
Stevan, a four-year standout for the boys basketball program, leaves behind one of the most decorated careers in school history while maintaining an equally strong presence in the classroom.
“For more than six years, Stevan has shown a deep love of the game and competed at a high level every time he stepped on the court,” said Boys Basketball Program Director Devon McNairy. “But what stands out even more is that he excelled even beyond basketball in the classroom, working quietly and consistently to achieve at the highest level.”
A four-year starter, Stevan became Geffen Academy’s all-time leading scorer and earned multiple all-league honors, helping elevate the program’s competitive standing within the league.
In addition to these standout Bruins, two of their classmates have also earned CIF State Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. Read more about those honorees here.
The CIF-SS Academic Awards program, sponsored by Southern California Ford Dealers, also recognizes team achievements across 29 sports, with more than 2,600 teams considered this year.
