BRENTWOOD— Sophomore harrier Keira W. ’29 crossed the finish line first on Saturday in the Varsity Girls division of the Brentwood Cross Country Invitational. Her meet-pacing race time of 19:59 was a 38-second personal best from last fall and bested the second-place finisher by over 13 seconds.

The meet served as the season-opener for the Bruins, who will be back in action this coming Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Bellarmine Invitational at Griffith Park.

For the Geffen Academy boys, sophomore Sebastian M. ’29 finished second overall among varsity runners. His 16:03 effort was nearly a two-minute improvement from last year.

“I was really proud of how we performed,” Head Coach Darryl De La Vega said. “Our team looks good for this having only been our first meet, whereas many other schools have already raced in two or three meets already.”

Other impressive runs came via Abby A., Lila N., Leo K., Genki M., Garrett S., Zach H., Isa A., Kainoa D., Kaan T., and James L.
