Bruin Golf Secures Second Straight Coastal League Title

ENCINO— Geffen Academy’s varsity golf team continued its dominance in Coastal League play on Wednesday, capturing its second consecutive league championship with a commanding performance at Encino Golf Course.

The Bruins posted a team score of 207 to comfortably outpace conference rivals Vistamar (235) and Rolling Hills Preparatory (291) in the league’s final team competition of the season. The decisive margin underscored Geffen’s depth and consistency throughout the day.

Freshman Harry K. led the way with an impressive round of 38 (+2), highlighting a balanced team effort that included contributions from junior Alex B., junior Christian C., junior Willie L., senior Nathan L., and senior Brody H.

Head Coach Mike Padilla credited the team’s internal competition and camaraderie as key factors in the victory.

“We really came together as a team and created a competitive atmosphere where everyone pushed each other to be better,” Padilla said. “That focus and energy led to a strong performance and a sizable win in league play.”

In his first season leading the program, Padilla also expressed appreciation for how the team embraced his leadership:

“I’m grateful to the players for welcoming me as a new face and trusting their games with me,” he said. “They took my suggestions seriously, and we were able to grow together. We had plenty of laughs along the way, and I appreciate their balance between academics and golf.”

Despite the championship, Padilla emphasized that the team’s goals extend beyond league play.

“The job’s not done,” he added, noting the Bruins will send several golfers to the Coastal League Individual Championships on April 29, returning to Encino Golf Course with momentum and high expectations. The team also expects to have a handful of golfers advance to the CIF Ford Southern Section Championships come May.
