Swim Records Fall As Bruin Boys Claim Coastal League Title

WESTWOOD — Four Geffen Academy swimming records fell Thursday evening at UCLA’s Spieker Aquatic Center as the Bruins captured their fifth consecutive Coastal League title in boys swimming and diving.

The Geffen boys dominated the pool with a conference-leading 399 points, finishing well ahead of runner-up California Academy of Math and Sciences (247). On the girls side, the Bruins delivered a strong performance to place second overall with 316 points — just three points shy of league champion Vistamar (319).

Senior Anna T. led the record-breaking charge, rewriting the Geffen record books in the sprint freestyle events. She zipped to the wall in 26.17 in the 50-yard freestyle and 57.84 in the 100, and helped set the tone early by leading off the Bruins’ meet-opening, first-place 200 medley relay. That quartet — with Anna alongside seniors Caroline M. and Ananya G. as well as sophomore Christina X. — splashed home in 2:12.75.

Christina X., fresh off capturing the CIF Southern Section Division IV girls diving title earlier in the week, continued her standout performance in the pool by setting a new school record in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.60).

On the boys side, the Bruins piled up wins across the meet. The 200 medley relay team of Aiden L., Caleb A., Deivis D., and Lucas W. kicked things off with a first-place finish in 1:49.32. Caleb A. later jetted to victory in the 200 freestyle (2:01.61), while Theo E. sprinted to first in the 50 freestyle (25.59).

Sophomore Lucas W. added a record-breaking performance in the 100 butterfly, touching in 53.58 to win the event by nearly two seconds. Aiden L. claimed gold in the 100 backstroke (1:02.95), and Josh Z. powered to a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.78).

The Bruins capped the meet in style, as the 400 freestyle relay team of Caleb A., Theo E., Aiden L., and Lucas W. surged ahead of the field and splashed home first in 3:37.79.

Senior Ananya G. was named Girls League MVP after winning the 100 backstroke (1:15.01) and contributing to victories in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. The winning 400 freestyle relay team featured Ananya G., Lyla H., Christina X., and Anna T.

“This was a special night for our program,” said Boys and Girls Swimming and Diving Program Director Melissa Ribeiro. “We saw incredible effort across every event, from record-breaking swims to total team contributions. What stands out most is how the athletes showed up for each other, raced with confidence, and represented Geffen Academy with pride.”

The meet also marked Senior Night, honoring the Bruins’ seven graduating athletes: Hanah Y., Alex R., Caroline M., Kielan L., Aiden L., Ananya G., and Deivis D.
