Geffen Tennis Joins Loyola High To Live Like Braun

LOS ANGELES- On March 2, Geffen Academy’s varsity boys tennis team played an away match against Loyola High School. During the competition, players wore “Live Like Braun” shirts to honor a Loyola student, Braun Levi, who was hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver last year. To those who knew him, Braun was a kind and generous person who made a lasting impact on the Loyola community, both as a tennis player and as the Cubs’ boys varsity volleyball team manager.

A moment of silence was held before the match, and teammates of Braun’s, as well as the Loyola head coach, Brian Held, spoke about his legacy. Upon reflection of the tribute, Geffen Academy’s Tennis Program Director Ron Booth noted:

“That was bigger than tennis today. To hear Braun’s Loyola teammates speak and share about who he was…it really put everything into perspective. You could feel how much he meant to that community, and it reminded our guys why moments like this matter.”

UCLA students have also paid tribute to Braun and his legacy. On March 3rd, UCLA Men’s Volleyball united with USC Men’s Volleyball, also wearing “Live Like Braun” shirts in Braun’s honor at their match. You can read more about that match and Braun’s impact on Loyola Volleyball here.

In Braun’s memory, family members founded the Live Like Braun Foundation. To honor his legacy, the foundation works to spread awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, provide academic scholarships, and support public tennis access. In honoring Braun Levi, Geffen players are reminded to live by the same values that Braun did: kindness, courage, and love.

“If my players walk away remembering to lead with kindness, to include others, to appreciate every opportunity they have,” Booth went on, “that’s more important than any result. That’s what ‘Live Like Braun’ represents.”
