PERSPECTIVE: Middle School Sports Celebration

On February 11, Geffen Academy celebrated its Middle School winter sports athletes. Remembering their best moments and sharing some laughs, all teams have very strong seasons to look back on.

On and off the field or court, all of our players had fun with their friends.

“Probably when me and my friends would bring speakers to practice and it was really fun,” said 8th grader Leah G., who was on the Girls Blue Soccer team, when asked about her favorite moment from this season. Many of our athletes had memories like these to reflect on, enjoying the time spent together.

And almost all Bruin athletes that I interviewed noted that their win against Brentwood School was a highlight for their team.

“My favorite moment was when we went to overtime (against) Brentwood,” said 6th grader Blake T., a player on the Boys Gold basketball team. Along with Boys Gold basketball, Boys Blue basketball and Girls Blue basketball also pulled off an upset victory over BWS.

This year, our players were hard at work making sure they showed their best selves for every game. Showing up to better yourself is an important value for excellent sportsmanship. We are very proud of our athletes, and the effort they put into their sport this season. We are so grateful to be represented by such resilient players.

Added 8th grader Sanav B., who played for Boys Blue basketball: “Yeah, we lost a game by one point. I had a shot to win the game, unfortunately, it didn’t go in. So that shot really stuck with me throughout the entire season.”

“I don’t know, maybe winning that game, we could have gotten a better seed,” he went on. “Maybe we could have gone further in the playoffs. I mean, everything you look back on, but like, at the end of the day, it’s a learning moment. You grow, you learn, and hopefully I’ll make it next time.”
